McBride stated that in order to ensure she is not the last only by being the best member of Congress and having her identity as a Delawarean be the most well known can she guarantee it.

During an interview Ms. McBride expressed her desire to advocate for L. In her memoir 34 year old Ms. McBride shares her anxiety about coming out as trans in a Facebook post during college.

Since then she has achieved several milestones including being the first openly trans woman to intern at the White House speak at the Democratic National Convention and be elected to a State Senate.

Despite her gender identity Ms. McBride believes her primary win shows voters care more about her record and abilities on other issues.
