The military stated that it thinks the hostages were murdered on Thursday August 29 which was the day prior to when their bodies were discovered.
The military released its initial public announcement regarding the discovery on Saturday Aug. Admiral Hagari stated that the military started removing the bodies the next day after checking for traps in the tunnel.
The tunnel located 20 meters below ground had a vertical shaft opening into a room with cheerful images.
The hostages were held 120 meters from the shaft behind a heavy iron door in a low ceiling arched concrete tunnel.
Families of the captives were briefed on the Israeli military investigation as reported by the Hostages Families Forum.
Admiral Hagari described the conditions as an extremely terrible situation. Some families found their briefings disturbing because it was difficult for them to learn how their loved ones both survived and were killed in those conditions.
Ephrat Livni contributed to the reporting.
